Controversies Conference

KDIGO is sponsoring a series of international Controversies Conferences to examine what is known, what can be done with what is known and what needs to be known on topics of clinical relevance in nephrology. These conferences bring together an international group of experts to delineate current practice recommendations and identify clinical questions that are used to steer the evidence review process for the development of clinical practice guidelines.

Evidence Rating Process

The KDIGO Evidence Review Team (ERT) is an international group of methodology experts, centered at and managed by the Boston-based members at the Tufts-New England Medical Center that includes collaborating members of the Cochrane Collaboration Group in Australia and ERT experts from other countries and guideline organizations. The role of the ERT is to provide methodological assistance to KDIGO and its guideline Workgroups by 1) conducting systematic literature searches with data extraction and evidence table development and 2) assisting the workgroup in accurate rating of the evidence and guideline recommendations. The ERT will continually evaluate the methodology used in the development of KDIGO Guidelines and refine as necessary to produce the highest quality evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for the management of patients with chronic kidney disease.

Mineral Bone Initiative

The KDIGO Bone and Mineral Initiative Workgroup evolved from the Controversies Conference on Mineral Metabolism and Bone Disease in CKD conference. This globally integrated initiative was designed to facilitate the recommendations that evolved from the conference deliberations. Over the last several years, the KDIGO-Bone and Mineral Workgroup has developed a number of international programs to advance knowledge in diagnosing and treating the mineral and bone disorders of CKD.
